About Our Products
Houndini's Healthy Dog Treats is devoted to baking dog treats made with quality human-grade ingredients that are good for your dog.
Our treats are baked in small batches to ensure the highest quality and freshness. If you plan to keep them for longer than 2 weeks, please refrigerate or freeze them. They will still taste great, and won't mold due to shelf life. I am proud to make fresh-baked treats many times weekly, but, as with bakery products, they are meant to be consumed in a short time.
Preservative-free dog biscuits that are left in a dog treat jar on the counter will last a lot longer in a cool and dry environment than one that is hot and humid.
Air, heat and light will shorten the freshness of even chemically preserved dog treats.
The best place to store homemade dog treats is in a cool, dark and dry place.
This web-site is a work in progress. We have been baking and selling treats for a year now, so my time to work on this site is limited. We currently sell in 8 shops in Hamilton, Montana, on Etsy, and at the Hamilton Farmer's Market every Saturday.
I was very lucky to meet and fall in love with a wonderful man, who is now my partner and biggest supporter. Our life together was completed when Pista, a rescue dog, swooped into our home.
We took Pista for an exam and vaccines, and picked out a good, healthy dog food from our local pet store. We bought her a harness, a leash and a food bowl. Next came a bed, and a few toys. We also bought a box of "gourmet treats", with a "gourmet" price.
We used the treats to train Pista to "come", "sit", "go potty", "don't eat the table legs", etc... When that small box of treats was gone a week later, we bought some boxed biscuits at the grocery store. We came home, read the ingredient list, looked up several ingredients on the list, then threw away the box.
So, here we were, 40 miles from town, with a puppy (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde), and no treats. I quickly cubed some pieces of cheese for temporary rewards, and set to work to learn how to make a batch of biscuits-type treats quickly. By night-time, we were back in business, and our first treat recipe, Natural Cheddar Cheese Biscuits, was born.
Several months and dozens of treats later, Houndini's was born.
